Glentress

The following notices are in effect at this location.

1. Bike trails maintenance

   • Tree felling operations are ongoing at Glentress with some trail closures on the Red/Black Mountain Bike Routes. 
     
     
   • During 2026 we’ll be continuing maintenance/rebuild work on the bike trails. Trails will mostly stay open with brief delays passing through work areas but some closures will be needed at times. Please follow all safety signage and instructions from the trail crews.
2. Event notice

   Saturday 30 May: several trails will be fully closed or partially closed (with diversions) due to the Glentress 7 event.

3. Lower Green Route trail notice

   The Lower Green Route is open but will close on Saturday 30 May for the Glentress 7 event.

4. Ponds Trail notice

   Saturday 30 May: the Multi-user Trail part of the Ponds Trail will be closed for the Glentress 7 event. The upper part of the trail around the ponds will remain open, accessible via the forest road up to Go Ape.

5. Glen Trail notice

   Saturday 30 May: the Multi-user Trail part of the Glen Trail will be closed for the Glentress 7 event. The upper loop of the Glen Trail will remain open accessible via the forest road up to Go Ape. The racecourse will cross the trail at post 6 and 7. Please follow signage and instructions from marshals. 

6. Buzzard's Nest Trail notice

   Saturday 30 May: much of the Buzzard's Nest Trail will be closed for the Glentress 7 event. A shorter out and back version on the Falla Brae side between Go Ape and the Buzzard's Nest (post 3 to 9) will be available with a diversion on the upper part via forest road. Accessible via the forest road up to Go Ape.

7. Taster Trails notice

   • Saturday 30 May: all Taster Trails will be closed for the Glentress 7 event.
     
     
   • Some sections of the Red and Black Taster Trails and Flow trails will be closed at times during 2026 for maintenance/rebuild work. Currently Castle Black lower and the final part of Smells Like Tweed Spirit are closed (7 days a week) with a diversion via the final part of Turn and Burn. Please follow onsite signage and instructions from maintenance team.
8. Glentress Skills Area notice

   Saturday 30 May: the Skills Area will be open during the Glentress 7 event, accessible via the trail behind the Gateway Building (as an out and back).

9. Multi-user Trail notice

   Saturday 30 May: the Multi-user Trail will be closed for the Glentress 7 event. Access to the walk and bike trails will be via the forest road up towards Go Ape.

10. New route layout at Buzzard's Nest

    Please note there is a new trail layout at Buzzard's Nest, for the first section of the Tower Trail. See route card. 

11. Glentress Blue Route notice

    Saturday 30 May: a shorter version of the Blue Route will be available due to the Glentress 7 event, accessible from the trailhead via the forest road towards Go Ape.

    Sections open (linked with diversions) will be: Dougie Bank Climb, Blue Velvet, Berm Baby Berm, Electric Blue, Falla Brae and Good Game.

    At other times, the route is open with diversions:

    • Short diversion at the exit of Cardie Hill Climb (post 10 to post 11).
      
      
    • Harry's Blue is back open 7 days a week. On road to it, please stop and wait for signal from banksperson/operator before passing any heavy machinery. Thank you.

    • Open with one short diversion at the exit of Cardie Hill Climb (post 10 to post 11).
      
      
    • Harry's Blue is closed Monday to Friday due to tree felling operations along forest road to Harry's Blue. Finish date to be confirmed.
12. Glentress Red Route notice

    Saturday 30 May: a shorter version of the Red Route will be available due to the Glentress 7 event, accessible from the trailhead via the forest road towards Go Ape. Sections open (linked with diversions) will be: Dougie Bank Climb, Spookywood Climb and Descent, Super G then diversion onto the Blue Route to return.

    At other times, the route is mostly open with some closures/diversions:

    • Diversion at the exit of Cardie Hill Climb (post 10) rejoining at the exit of Cool Runnings (post 12).
      
      
    • Matrix and Lombard Street closed 7 days a week due to tree felling operations with diversion from post 45 via Pie Run and Mushroom Pie to Magic Mushroom. Until end of June 2026.
      
      
    • Twitcher is closed Monday to Friday due to tree felling operations along road to start of trail until the end of June 2026. Note: Harry's Blue is back open as an option to access Smells Like Tweed Spirit.
      
      
    • The final part of Smells Like Tweed Spirit is currently closed for maintenance/rebuild work (7 days a week) with a diversion via the final part of Turn and Burn.
13. Glentress Black Route notice

    Saturday 30 May: a shorter again version of the Black Route will be available due to the Glentress 7 event, accessible from the trailhead via forest road towards Go Ape. Sections open (linked with diversions) will be: Dougie Bank Climb, Soor Plooms, Goat Track, Tower Ride, Mustard Snake, Carls Lane, Spookywood Descent, Mud and Roots then diversion onto the Blue Route to return.

    At other times, the route is partially open with some closures/diversions:

    • Diversion at the exit of Cardie Hill Climb (post 10) via forest road, climb up old Pennels Vennel trail and Blue Velvet ending at Soor Plooms entry.
      
      
    • Boundary Trail, Deliverance, Mild Peril and Redemption Climb remain closed due to storm damage and due to leading into a live felling area. Diversion at post 73 via Carls Lane, Spookywood, Mud & Roots and Hit Squad Hill.
      
      
    • Ewok Village, Double X and Head Over Heels closed 7 days a week due to tree felling operations until the end of June 2026. Diversion from post 45 as per Red Route.
      
      
    • The final part of Castle Black is currently closed (7 days a week) for rebuild/maintenance work with diversion via the final part of Turn and Burn.

Active notices

Ticks

Ticks can carry Lyme disease, which can lead to long-term illness. Check for ticks after your visit and remove them quickly.

Open water

There is open water at this site. Watch children closely, wear a life jacket if you go in the water, and do not drink alcohol near or in water.

Forestry works

You may find tree felling, road building and timber lorries here. Keep safe and don't enter closed areas. Always follow signs and instructions.
