Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is inviting local residents and forest visitors to offer feedback on long-term plans for the management of local woodlands at Benarty, Pitcairn, Cardenden and Cullaloe.

The woodlands, that lie between Kirkcaldy and the M90 in Fife, are all included in the South East Fife Woods Land Management Plan (LMP), which will set out FLS’ strategic management proposals for the next ten years and beyond.

The plans - which include felling, replanting, woodland creation and forest roads works - will be the focus of drop-in sessions in September, and are available to view online.

No active management is currently proposed for Cullaloe.

Sandy Davidson, Planning Forester for FLS, said;

“Forestry management is a long-term activity so part of this review is about the future management of the trees with selective thinning to maintain the long-term health and longevity of the woodlands.

“Before finalising these proposals, we would welcome any comments and feedback from interested parties and invite you to take part in our public consultation exercise between 19 August and 22 September 2024.

“We will be hosting two drop in events in Benarty and Cardenden to provide an opportunity for local people to view our proposals, discuss these with staff and ask questions.”

The drop-in sessions are:

  • Tue, 10 Sept (3pm – 7pm) - Benarty Centre, Flock house Avenue, Ballingry, KY5 8JH
  • Wed 18 Sept (3pm – 7pm) - Corrie Centre, Carden Avenue, Cardenden KY5 0EL

Anyone who is unable to attend these events can find more information and an opportunity to feedback online.

Closing date for feedback is Sunday 22 September.
